Is the car cleaning industry polluting the planet?
There’s no denying that the automotive industry as a whole is one of the great polluters in every sense of the word.
- Consumer motoring produces co2
- Vehicle production creates emissions
- The big oil corporations singlehandedly kill millions of mammals a year through the production of oil, diesel and petrol to power our engines
- Harmful chemicals are used to clean our vehicles and escape into drainage and into the atmosphere
All of this is an unfortunate by-product of owning a vehicle, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Anyone with access to the internet or a TV has seen the leaps and bounds that manufacturers like Tesla, Porsche and Ferrari have made in the hybrid/electric motoring sphere, and those who are fortunate enough have made the switch to hybrid/electric in preparation for the Government’s world leading plan to phase out the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030 will know all about the greener lifestyle.
So if you don’t have 40k to spend on a new Tesla and a Nissan Leaf isn’t really your style, how do you offset your impact on the environment? We believe the answer is to look at more price effective and less hassle switches.
We understand that not everyone is a petrolhead and enjoys spending their weekend in the garage tinkering and detailing their pride and joy, but one thing we all share is that we all like a clean car. But a clean car at the cost of the planet is a no-no.
Detergents, chemicals and vehicle dirt in wash water can impair water quality and have toxic effects on animal and plant life if disposed of incorrectly and not treated at a sewage work.
What are the UK Government doing about this?
The UK is bound by the EU Water Framework Directive to minimise water pollution. A framework adopted in 2000 to achieve ‘good’ status for all water bodies in the UK by 2015.
As of 2019, 16% of English rivers were of a good ecological status.
Although water pollution from agricultural waste and fertilisers is hugely responsible for this pollution, much work has been done to reduce water pollution from agricultural sources, industry and sewage works and now there is increased pressure to tackle urban sources of pollution e.g. effluent going into storm drains polluting rivers, streams, estuaries, lakes, canals or coastal waters. We believe Virescent can make a meaningful contribution in getting water quality as close to it’s natural state as possible with our responsible detailing range.
